0 Results for certain keywords
May 31, 2007 06:38PM
Hello,

I am currently testing the script and came across a problem. I am testing certain keywords but, the search results are showing 0 match. I have pages with words; r&d, R&D, r&d manager, R&D Manager but, search results show 0 matches. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jay

R & D isn't considered to be a word, but 2 letter separated by a '&'.

Even if 'R&D' is written as one word you would get a problem to find it, as '&' is ignored as character before indexing a site. Here is a solution for that.
Open file .../admin/spiderfuncs.php and search for the following row:

$file = preg_replace("/[\*\^\+\?\\\.\[\]\^\$\|\{\)\(\}~!\"\/@#?$%&=`?;><:,]+/", " ", $file);

replace that row with:

$file = preg_replace("/[\*\^\+\?\\\.\[\]\^\$\|\{\)\(\}~!\"\/@#?$%=`?;><:,]+/", " ", $file);

Ready. Now you have to do a fresh index for your database. Reindex doesn't work well here. Statement of reasons: please notice http://www.sphider.eu/forum/read.php?3,555

I can confirm that Tec's solution works very well.

Build a fresh index and do it. It is not enough to reindex.

Maybe you also have to change the minimum word lenght.
