Accent problem

Hi, the script works fine but the accents dont show correctly in the results. It's quite a problem since there are accents in almost every sentence in my language...is there a way I can fix this? I tried putting the line 'mysql_query("SET NAMES 'utf8'";' in the database.php file (I usually use this line in all my sites), but it didn't change anything...
