I "inherited" a large site (1844 links, 61654 keywords) that has no "description" or "keywords" meta data on any of the pages. My desire is to have store products rate higher than blog articles and blog archives. Current search results give mostly blog articles where "blog categories" frequently match search words (keywords), therefore, all these blog pages are returned even though they don't relate to the search.
In doing some testing I selected a few products in the "store." One product is an encyclopedia in print and eBook editions. On each of the products I edited the web page entering an accurate meta description and meta keywords making sure "encyclopedia" and "print" and "ebook" were included.
I re-indexed the site and I searched for "encyclopedia" and could find no results for the product (print or ebook) but I did get tons of hits from the blog (article) section.
I then searched for "encyclopedia" and "ebook" and again got no results.
I then changed "weights" in "settings" to "0" for title, "0" for domain name, "0" for path name but "99" to "weight of a word in meta_keywords."
I then re-indexed and searched for "encyclopedia" and again, the store product page was not returned even though it is one of the few pages on site that actually does have meta "keywords" and "description."
So right now I'm pretty confused........ Can anyone Help?
