SEO Friendly Dynamic Page Titles

A simple mod to let Sphider look better for Google (and for your users). Just add everything in between the # symbols (don't add these, they're just for show)

(include the following in ./templates/standard/header.html)
##############################################

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE><?php echo $pagetitle ?></TITLE>
<meta name="description" content="<?php echo $pagedescription ?>America's leading space portal.">
<meta name="keywords" content="<?php echo $pagekeywords ?>futurism,outer space,X-Prize">
</HEAD>

##############################################

(next, include the following line near the top of ./search.php. On my platform it worked to put it directly under the line "require_once("$include_dir/categoryfuncs.php"winking smiley;"winking smiley

##############################################
if ($start <= 1) {$pagestart = "";} else {$pagestart = " [".$start."]";}
if ($query != ""winking smiley { $pagetitle = $query." ".$pagestart; $pagekeywords = $query.", "; $pagedescription = $query." resources and ".$query." links, at ";} else { $pagetitle = "American Antigravity Search"; $pagekeywords = ""; $pagedescription = "";}

##############################################

That's it! Two simple lines of code. Here's some output from my example:
.
..
...
....
.....

[Main Search Page]
Title: American Antigravity Search
Description: America's leading space portal.
Keywords: futurism,outer space,X-Prize

[Search Results Page 1]
Title: My Example Search Query
Description: My Example Search Query resources and My Example Search Query links, at America's leading space portal.
Keywords: My Example Search Query, futurism,outer space,X-Prize

[Search Results Pages 2+...]
Title: My Example Search Query [2]
Description: My Example Search Query resources and My Example Search Query links, at America's leading space portal.
Keywords: My Example Search Query, futurism,outer space,X-Prize

hi everybody,

I tried this mod.
But I don't see any difference in my search results - they are the same as before I added the mod.
What I might be missing?

thanks.

p.s: if I replace the smiley with ; then I get the error message in my search.php
But if replace smiley with ) then there is no error message. So i replaced with )

You will not see any difference because the difference in only visible in the meta tags.
You can see that difference if you look at the source code of your results pages.

The information in this forum helped me a lot about the SEO titles.

The most important feature of SEO is having a significant content and the supervision of that content on the website. Website supposed to contain up to date information about the services, industry or products. Frequent updates should be a part of weekly or monthly website maintenance process.

In my error logs I noticed that this modification gives a php error.

Undefined variable: start in search.php, referring to the
if ($start

As I don't know how to fix this I remove this until someone tells us how to do this right.moody smiley

didn't work for me either. I tried a " ) " it removed the error and made my keywords change. Now to just customize my message a bit...

Thanks for the quick easy mod.

Can we put code inside a BB code tag? Here's a try:
require_once("$include_dir/categoryfuncs.php"winking smiley;
if ($start <= 1) {$pagestart = "";} else {$pagestart = " [".$start."]";}
if ($query != ""winking smiley { $pagetitle = $query." ".$pagestart; $pagekeywords = $query.", "; $pagedescription = $query." resources and ".$query." links, at ";} else { $pagetitle = "American Antigravity Search"; $pagekeywords = ""; $pagedescription = "";}

Ahh yes that works just use a standard BB code tag, I can't write an example here because it'll . . . um well how about this, each character will have an extra space between them: [ c o d e ] Place your code here [ \ c o d e ] I think that'll work.

Oh there's a lso a button on the message editor bar, that is titled "formatted code" that'll do the same thing. It's to the left of the "Center text" button or the third to last button if you prefer.

If you use this, be sure to replace the references to his site with yours, otherwise all you're doing is building up the SEO for his site and doing a whole lot of nothing for yours. I've place the areas you need to replace in bold since Tim failed to tell you this.......
