How do I make the URL Search Engine Friendly (SEF)?

Please could somebody help.

I have noticed that the search engines are indexing each individual category as a page. This is probably old news for you gurus out there.

However I would like to make the url more search engine friendly e.g. http://www.birdz.co.za/?catid=9 (the "?catid=9" part) I would like to make it read like so: http://www.birdz.co.za/business (the "business" part)

Apologies is this has been covered before, but try as I might I cannot find anything.
There is one by sherman2000, but this doesn’t work!!

Many thanks

DunaVista,

Understand that this is a community forum for free software - folks offer assistance when they can.

That being said - there are several discussions about SEF URLs that have been going on for years - in fact, I'm still awaiting assistance as well.

But hey, like I said, this is a community forum for free software - patience is key.
