changing definition of a "word" - 3 years ago

hi, I'm indexing an internal site, which has art objects with accession numbers, like 1991.12.23 12.14.1a-b 34.123.1(a,b,c) etc. Those identifiers are pretty important to me, but I don't get any matches when I search on "1991.12.23" though I know it's been indexed I'm wondering what approaches there are to dealing with this. I'd be willing to accept some "bad" wor
